Implementation and Deployment of Office Communicator Suite - IM

Goal:

To provide a platform for real-time communication and collaboration throughout the enterprise resulting in faster response times reduced storage needs, reduction in email traffic, and overall increased employee productivity. This included updating and creating new corporate use policies where needed to accommodate enterprise-wide use of Instant Messenger.

Challenges:

• Many departments were not interested in implementing Instant Messenger because they feared it would decrease productivity.

• There were considerable differences in type, age and location of equipment throughout the enterprise. These factors would affect how the software could be provided to users.

Solution:

• Rather than roll out to the entire enterprise or by department, to comply with specific departments' requests not to give access to their staff, Cognitive Technologies developed a new project implementation plan to give individuals access with their manager's approval.
• Worked with IT to run test deployments to remedy all possible install issues brought about by the wide array of potential user environments
• Coordinated with the Service Department to develop processes for individual request formats.

Cognitive Value Added:

• Contributed a working knowledge of collaborative software such as IM and its use across enterprises
• Provided professional project management for the project
• Listened to the wants and needs of managers across the department and adjusted the original plan to meet those requests, rather than providing access without asking if it was welcomed.
