Usability Testing for Timekeeping System

Goal

Identify easy changes that could be made to improve the user interface of this software system and areas that need to be supported in user documentation and technical support/help desk documents.

Challenges

  • The client felt that the timekeeping software was ready for rollout and expected confirmation that they system was very easy to use
  • Little time was available to make changes in order to meet their rollout date
  • No usability testing had occurred at the design stage.

 

Solution

Cognitive's approach was to:

  • Develop a usability testing plan requiring videotaped usability test sessions with carefully selected representative users
  • Create usability testing materials that were appropriate to the test of this software
  • Conduct the following techniques/tests:  Icon/Label/Button Test, videotaped Task/Function Usability Test, Post-Evaluation Questionnaire, and Debriefing Interview
  • Conduct analysis based on data, including compiling results, comments and observations, calculating percentages for desired measures, and identification of concerns based on percentages, ratios, and user comments.
