New Focus, New Name, New Look
The Knowledge Nugget was previously published as the PM/Packet.
Because we have expanded our tips and focus beyond project management, we
thought a new name was fitting! In each issue we'll be providing tips,
research, and white papers to help make projects, processes and people more
effective.
Key Findings from our 2009 Project Resource Management Survey
FREE 19-Page Summary Report
This summer, Cognitive Technologies conducted a nation-wide survey of
project-centric organizations to investigate their use of resource
management tools and processes, and to discover any recurring challenges across
organizations. The 2009 Project Resource Management Survey found a
surprising lack of tool and process usage dedicated to resource management.
According to the survey, many organizations faced severe challenges in project
resource allocation, including the following:
-
Sixty-seven percent (67%) agreed that their organization's key project
resources are consistently over allocated.
-
More than forty percent (40%) agreed that managers are struggling to verify
what people are working on.
-
The average respondent clained senior management did not recognize a current
resource management problem.

Collaborative Processes Yield Lasting Results
FREE 10-Page Whitepaper
Even innovative, exciting projects face hurdles. Effective implementation
frequently requires redesigning the business processes that are affected by the
new project--a fact that often may be overlooked. However, even good ideas to
redesign and improve these business processes can be surprisingly difficult to
implement. Why? Because the processes that likely produce the most value
are often cross-functional in nature.
In this whitepaper we document the importance of business processes as a
foundation for effective work. We discuss the role that collaboration can play
in developing business processes and improving the buy-in of cross-functional
business processes. Finally, we describe an interactive 10-step process to
develop collaborative processes.

Service Highlight: Are you Compliant?
Reducing Compliance Violations
Has any company in your industry faced litigation because it failed to comply
with a federal, state or local regulation? Has your company found itself the
leading headline in the local paper as a result of a compliance violation? It
is obvious the gravity a non-compliance event can have on an organization. What
can you do to instill compliance values in your organization? How can you
implement a program that will identify compliance risks and investigate
internal compliance issues before they become a regulatory
non-compliance?
Cognitive Technologies has established a compliance management program, based
on the United States Sentencing Commission guidelines. The first step to
implementing a compliance management program is to understand your
organization's current compliance health. Cognitive Technologies will
conduct a full compliance assessment of your organization, during
which we review your current regulation management process, compliance
management roles and responsibilities, compliance training, risk management
process, auditing procedures and compliance investigation process.
Start preventing damage today by investing in a compliance program. William
Lytton, former Executive Vice President for Tyco International left these
enlightened words of advice after the Tyco compliance scandal:
"Every company is just one bad decision or one bad employee away from a
scandal...one scandal away from a salacious headline...and one headline away
from a flood of lawsuits."
