COGNITIVE TECHNOLOGIES PILOTS WORKSHOP FOR FEDEX GROUND

May 11, 2004 – Why spend thousands of dollars to implement a competency management system that won’t enhance worker skills and productivity? Leading companies do it right – they develop a comprehensive strategy and plan before implementing the system.

On April 13-14th Cognitive Technologies facilitated a two day workshop with members of the FedEx Ground competency management project team in Pittsburgh, PA. The purpose of this workshop was to ensure that the project team considered organizational aspects and issues that will affect the success of their upcoming implementation of a major competency management system.

The competency management workshop covered topics including: defining project success and vision, linking competencies to business initiatives, best practices and lessons learned for competency management, and tips for implementing competencies in the vendor’s LMS. It consisted of targeted lecture, discussion, and team-based exercises to involve participants in decision making and problem solving.

“It’s no surprise that competency management initiatives have a high failure rate and can take up to 18 months to implement successfully,” says Dr. Karen McGraw, President of Cognitive Technologies. “By bringing together their team early in the project to work through problematic issues, FedEx is laying the groundwork for the success of their competency management implementation. Cognitive Technologies was pleased to apply our expertise in competency management to ensure that the FedEx project produces measurable business results,” McGraw added.
